The Impact of Civic Education on Schools, Students and Communities /draft/
Tigran Tovmasyan will evaluate how effectively the civic education curriculum is implemented in Armenian secondary schools in terms of reaching the program targets and implementing the pre-planned program activities. He will explore whether the materials and documents developed by the state authorities and experts in the field are aligned with internationally accepted practice, and if those efforts are leading to the formation of a more democratic society. Conducting quantitative surveys among school children, their teachers and parents from four Armenian marzes and Yerevan, and interviewing policymakers involved in the secondary education sphere, he will assess the overall value and usefulness of the civic education program for the local communities and the society at large. The results of this study will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. They should also enable the policymakers in the education sector (the Ministry of Education and Science, and the National Institute of Education of Armenia) to increase the effectiveness of the civic education program offered in Armenian secondary schools.
